PointClickCare Launches PointClickCare MDS Analytics powered by PointRight
Integrated, web-based tool enhances MDS data integrity, improves quality outcomes, and reduces risk for Canadian long-term care providers
Mississauga, Ontario - April 2, 2012 - PointClickCare, the most widely used electronic health record (EHR) platform for the long-term care industry, today announced the launch of a new web-based tool fully integrated in its EHR platform, PointClickCare MDS Analytics powered by PointRight.
Developed in partnership with PointRight, the healthcare leader in predictive analytics and decision support, PointClickCare MDS Analytics ensures accurate MDS coding and completion by assessing the clinical and logical consistency of individual resident assessments in real time. “By embedding PointRight’s proven predictive analytics solution into our EHR platform, our Canadian customers can eliminate manual paper-based audit tools and use PointClickCare MDS Analytics’ built-in verification reports to efficiently and proactively analyze and investigate MDS coding,” says Dave Wessinger, Chief Technology Officer at PointClickCare. "With instant feedback 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, clinicians can address discrepancies prior to submitting to CIHI, rather than waiting weeks or months, for a more accurate case mix index."
PointClickCare MDS Analytics screens data in a manner similar to surveyors and MOHLTC Compliance Auditors to uncover opportunities to proactively improve care plans and address risk management implications before they result in a care issue. Built-in recurrent triggers help identify any underlying cause to coding inconsistencies, such as a need for staff education, review of documentation, or re-implementation of policies and procedures. As regulatory changes imposed on Canadian long-term care facilities become more frequent and increasingly complex, PointClickCare MDS Analytics provides additional compliance support with built-in references to the current Resident Assessment Instrument User’s Manual MDS v2.0 allowing clinicians to review coding guidelines and address discrepancies before errors or citations occur. The incorporated feedback recommendations ensure documentation accuracy and regulatory compliance. In addition, the tool’s checks for logical and clinical consistencies outside of basic coding requirements that may conflict with a facility’s policies and procedures will prompt an internal investigation. PointClickCare MDS Analytics also supports the sharing of information across disciplines. The tool enables cross-references between sections of the MDS assessment, which encourages collaborative interaction when engaging in care plan decisions. "There’s a lot more staff collaboration in the nurses’ station. The nurses aren’t feeling so isolated in completing their assessments and are frequently sharing their reports," comments Windermere Care Centre’s Director of Care, Joanna Martin, RN.
